Snakes Ain't The Problem, It Is The Cactus

We took a hike this morning to see the wild flowers in bloom.  This is the time of year that the Rattlesnakes are waking up.  We always keep a eye out for them, but we have never yet seen one while hiking. We have found the cactus to be far more  dangerous than the snakes.
This time of year I always miss the daffodils, tulips and rhododendrons. Thank goodness for Trader Joes, I can buy cut tulips and daffodils there. The desert does have plenty of its own flowers, and this is a particularly good year for them. We had far more rain than normal this winter, and that makes for beautiful  cactus blooms.
The rock below is Herms special rock. Just like a dog, he had to mark his spot and now we always check to see what is growing. Five years ago when he first marked his spot it was just a rock with nothing growing and now he has produced a lovely plant.
Below is a Century Plant, they supposedly bloom every 100 years and after they bloom they fall over and die.
