Talpa de Allende Festival

This past week we took a 3 hour drive East to the town of Talpa. We had planned on visiting the town and Cathedral which was built in 1782. We knew that this was a town that was known for its pilgrimage to the Cathedral but had no idea it would be happening the day we planned our visit. It was a real surprise, when we were about 25 miles from Talpa we noticed people walking and riding bikes. The closer we got the more people, it was a traffic nightmare for the last 5 miles. Have never seen so many buses, that were so old. When we got to the edge of town the traffic was not moving so we turned around with out seeing the Cathedral or the town. We later learned that people walk for days or take a bus. The custom is that the Virgin of the Rosary miraculously appeared. They have this celebration ever year between March 11th-19th. By visiting the cathedral during these days it is believed that all your problems you had during the year are erased. Maybe that explains why it was mainly men that were marching.

On our way back we stopped for lunch, Karen & Nancy were with us.
